What did we do?
On Friday, November 3rd and Saturday November 11th, the Higley High Key Club participated in packaging food for Feed My Starving Children in Mesa. Were we successful? Definitely! On both days we had 15 students attend and packaged over 20 boxes of food per session. Each box of food contains 36 packets and each packet can give up to 4 meals. Everyone had a great time helping out communities in need across the world and shared a wonderful team building experience. We were joined by our Kiwanis sponsors, Belinda Heinz, Lynne Guidin, Lew Bradley and Carol Fontaine. A huge thanks to them, as Key club would not be where it was without our wonderful sponsors! Another big thank you to the student participants: Thein Trinh, Connor Holmes, Katelyne Sheffield, Katelyn Hahn, Brianna Fratella, Seth Urish, Nikole Parkhurst, Kelly Lamau, Campbell Turner, Anastasia Bell, Olivia Hernandez, Brea Valentine, Xuan Nguyen, Kasey, Christina Dang, Maggie Huang, Renee Phu, and Kameelah Jackson. Hello everyone! As discussed in our meeeting, we need donations to try a minimize the cost of our two lastest projects, The Festival of Trees and the Hot Chocolate Fundraiser.
The Festival of Trees Our current priority, is our display for The Festival of Trees. At our last meeting, we decided on a Disney theme. We'll ornaments, tree toppers, and a tree skirt that matches our theme by our next meeting on the 21st. It should be noted that decorationns are free to be either bought or ca also be handmade, if you wish. Hot Chocolate Fundraiser As shown at our last meeting, we're going to have quite an expense if we don't get donations. We need gallons of water, hot chocolate, marshmallows, stir sticks, and extras such as peppermint sticks, dairy free flavoring packs, etc. That's all for this post. Thank you for keeping up with Key Club! Hello, everyone! Today's post is about a volunteering oppurtunity in November, The Festival of Trees. What exactly is the Festival of Trees? The Festival of Trees is a community-wide event sponsored by Gilbert Community Action Network (CAN) and San Tan Village mall. The event features a silent auction for trees that have been donated and decorated by local schools, non-profit organizations, business, and community members. The trees will be displayed on Dec. 1 and 2 at the Gilbert Historical Museum. Decorating days are Sat. Nov. 25 from noon to 4 and Tues. Nov. 28 from 10am until 7pm. Funds raised benefit Character Counts programs in our schools. What is Key Club Doing? We have a donated tree the we will go and decorate on Tuesday Nov 28th! We are meeting at the Gilbert historical Museum at 4pm until 7pm. We need to bring our own decorations for the tree (including a tree skirt) that match the theme we deicde at our next meeting on November 7th. The tree will be pre-lit and anywhere from 3-5 feet tall. Can make it on the 28th but still want to help? If you would like to volunteer to help run the auction event for community service hours on December 1st and 2nd you can follow this link: https://www.justserve.org/projects/a8450138-e9bb-4bd2-bd23-4a8ba58ea7b9 That's it for this post. Thank you for keeping up with Key Club! Hello everyone! For our November Service Project we've decided on Feed My Starving Children.
What is Feed My Starving Children? Feed My Starving Children is Christian non-profit founded in 1987 dedicated to ending world hunger. They reach nearly 70 countries with the help of their volunteers, resulting in more than 284 million total meals packed. What is Key Club doing? We will be going to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children Friday, November 3rd and Saturday, November 11th by helping to make MannaPacks to feed hungry children. You can attend one or both the events if you so wish. Can't make it to the events but still want to help? Feed My Starving Children accepts donations, so can help that way. If that's also not an option, fear not a post will be coming out soon with another volunteering oppurtunity. That's it for this post. Thank you for keeping up with Key Club! Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to the new site! However the site isn't the only thing that's new, as our 2017 officers have been decided! They are:
Khiyara G. as President Lauren Pack as Vice President Geena Song as Secretary Angel Isom as Treasurer Meagan Ewing and Brianna Fratella as Co-Editors and Campbell Turner as Webmaster Lastly, there are only around three weeks left to fill up your trick or treat boxes. Be sure to ask friends and teachers for donations as we reach the final stretch to get them turned in by November 21st. That's it for today. Thank you for keeping up with Higley Key Club. |
